Our Story
We love Colorado’s wilderness beauty and want to share it in a way that inspires others. By sharing our knowledge and expertise, we hope to open up to you the local wilderness gems. We believe you will have a richer, safer, and more enjoyable experience because of the knowledge you gain on mountain safety, environmental stewardship, and local mountain geography and history.
However, just because we love the mountains (and hope you do, too), we know the mountains don’t always love us. Your safety is our number one priority and everything we do is with safety in mind, from the vehicles we drive, to a regular assessment of the weather/road/trail conditions, to discussing appropriate daily objectives.
We want you to explore the mountains, travel safely, and have experiences that last a lifetime!

Originally from the Midwest, Chris moved to Colorado almost a decade ago after falling in love with the mountains. Over that time, he’s pursued learning more about all types of climbing and enjoys sharing that knowledge and experience with others. Chris loves helping climbers improve in all areas of their climbing, whether that be technique work, fitness and conditioning, mental headspace, or technical systems. In the summer, you can find Chris climbing in Boulder Canyon, Eldorado Canyon, or high up in Rocky Mountain National Park and once the snow flies, he’s ski patrolling at Eldora and earning his turns in the backcountry.

Jill Yarger
Facilitator / Guide
Jill joined the guiding staff of Colorado Wilderness Rides and Guides in the summer of 2014 and has enjoyed leading hikes, climbs, snow shoe trips, and hut to hut skiing treks, and helped companies develop their employees with outdoor based team buildings and leadership events. Her goal is to help her guests make the great peaks, meadows, and rivers of the beautiful Rocky Mountains accessible, and to discover new possibilities in themselves. Jill moved to Boulder Colorado in 1990 from the flat lands of the midwest and never looked back. After a few initial unguided hikes resulting in becoming slightly lost and very wet and cold, she searched for and found the Colorado Mountain Club and over the next few years, took all the mountaineering training she could get her hands on. She went on to give back to the mountaineering community by teaching others in all forms of mountaineering, and leading hikes and climbs. When she saw some of her friends responding to help other lost and injured skiers and climbers, she discovered and joined the National Ski Patrol and the Mountain Rescue Association. She was an active member of the local Mountain Rescue Association (Rocky Mountain Rescue Group) and for 13 years helped injured and lost mountaineers return back from the trail to home. She is an active ski patroller and first aid instructor in the National Ski Patrol since 1996. It was an aerospace engineering career that brought Jill to Colorado, but it is the mountains that keep her here. Today the call of sharing her love of the mountains has drawn her away from the engineering world and into guiding people into journeying into the alpine nature, and returning safely. Jill has done hikes and climbs in Alaska, Africa, the Italian Dolomites, Machu Picchu, skied in Canada, and descended canyons in southern Utah, but her outdoor home is Colorado. She hikes, rock climbs, snow shoes, bikes, kayaks, canoes, and skies all through Colorado discovering more wonder on every trip.

Jenn Borke
Operations, Facilitator / Guide
Originally from New Jersey, Jenn grew up playing basketball, softball and music. Some of her favorite memories are hiking and climbing trees in the Appalachian mountains near the Delaware Water Gap with her grandfather. Jenn started college studying architecture at Virginia Tech in 2015. It wasn’t long until she discovered a deeper love and connection to nature through her time spent in Appalachia hiking, backpacking and climbing. This, along with her first time out west, the first of over 20 cross-country roadtrips, rock climbing across the country, adoption of her very first dog (8 year old chocolate lab - Aspen), being given her first houseplant (still alive 10 years later), she decided to change paths and study wildlife. Jenn led trips for the VT Rock Climbing Club to nearby crags such as the New River Gorge & The Red River Gorge. She spent a summer working as a Park Guide at Glacier Point in Yosemite National Park that only further deepened her gratitude for our planet. In 2020, right after graduating with a B.S. in Wildlife Conservation & getting her Wilderness First Responder, Jenn checked off a bucket list item by driving over 4,000 miles with Aspen, to work as a Park Guide for the National Park Service in Fairbanks, Alaska. Backpacking across Alaska’s National Parks, Jenn honed in her backcountry travel & orienteering skills in super remote settings. She worked a few other seasonal gigs in the plant & organic gardening industry and took her single pitch instructor course. Finally, in May of 2022, Jenn, Aspen, and nearly 80 houseplants made the move to the Colorado Front Range where she started working as a guide for Colorado Wilderness. Since then, Jenn has made Colorado her home, working several seasons as a guide before, getting her AMGA SPI cert, stepping into a managerial role for the company. Now, you can find Jenn in the mountains & in the office. If you need any information on the company, the Front Range, road-trips, or houseplants, Jenn is your person!
