About Us
A Boulder-Based Premier Outdoor Adventure Company
Our Timeline
The History
Colorado Wilderness Corporate & Teams was not built overnight.
It evolved through decades of experiential work, operational leadership, and execution in increasingly complex environments.
This timeline reflects the real progression of our organization—from early outdoor experiences to large-scale experiential programs, leadership development, destination management, and high-visibility event services.
1994 — Colorado Bike & Ski Tours Founded
Colorado Bike & Ski Tours was established as one of Colorado’s early providers of guided outdoor and adventure-based group experiences. From the beginning, programs emphasized more than recreation—using environment, movement, and challenge to create connection, confidence, and learning.
2001 — CBST
As programs expanded in scope and scale, Colorado Bike & Ski Tours began operating as CBST, reflecting a broader focus on group-based experiential programming and large-format outdoor experiences.
2009 — Colorado Wilderness Rides & Guides & Boulder Wilderness Shuttle
Colorado Wilderness Rides & Guides was established as a professional guiding and instruction division, focused on safety, risk management, and technical outdoor leadership.
At the same time, Boulder Wilderness Shuttle was formed to provide licensed transportation and logistical support—allowing experiences to be delivered seamlessly across environments.
2011 — Colorado Wilderness Corporate & Teams
Colorado Wilderness Corporate & Teams was established to meet growing demand from organizations seeking leadership development, executive retreats, and outcome-driven team experiences, not just activities.
This marked a formal shift into experiential leadership development, organizational alignment, and corporate performance work.
2013–2017 — Hard As Nails Obstacle Race Series
Between 2013 and 2017, Colorado Wilderness Corporate & Teams’ experiential design and operational expertise supported the Hard As Nails Obstacle Race Series, produced under Colorado Obstacle Course & Mud Races LLC.
These city-permitted events hosted up to 1,000 participants (plus 5,000 spectators) and required:
-
Municipal coordination
-
Park closures and permitting
-
Safety systems and medical planning
-
Staffing and volunteer management
-
Full event logistics and execution
Hard As Nails demonstrated how experiential design could scale without sacrificing intention, safety, or professionalism.
2015 — CBST Adventures
The CBST name formally evolved into CBST Adventures, reflecting its role as a large-format experiential platform specializing in high-energy, highly visible programs for corporate and institutional groups.
2021 — CBST Adventures Integrated
CBST Adventures was integrated into the Colorado Wilderness ecosystem.
Its large-format methodologies, design frameworks, and experiential DNA now inform many of Colorado Wilderness Corporate & Teams’ signature programs.
2026 — Boulder Destination Management Company (DMC)
Colorado Wilderness formally expanded its destination management capabilities, establishing Boulder-based DMC services focused on corporate events, executive retreats, and complex multi-day programs.
This added hotel sourcing, logistics, routing, staffing, and integrated execution under one accountable organization.
2027 — Sundance Film Festival Services Expansion
Colorado Wilderness expanded its integrated services supporting Sundance Film Festival programming, including:
-
Corporate and executive programs
-
VIP experiences
-
Destination management
-
Licensed transportation and logistics
This work reflects the organization’s ability to operate calmly and precisely in high-visibility, high-complexity environments.

FAQ
How hard are the team-building activities? All of our events are custom-created for your group. We have a plethora of unique activities to choose from within the program that you select. From easy activities with no physical requirements to scaling 14,000 ft peaks or climbing a sheer rock face. Rest assured that when we create an activity for your team we will take your input as to the difficulty of the event and strive to meet and exceed your expectations.
We have someone in our group with mobility concerns, can they still participate? All of our activities are “participation by choice.” This means that for each activity guests can choose to participate or not, depending on if they think they can safely accomplish the task. There is no judgment as we are all here to learn and experience something new. We can also have guests who do not feel they can physically keep up with an activity, help run the activity or in some other way participate with the group. Since all of our offerings are custom and private we can always create an experience that everyone in your group can enjoy.
What if it’s raining (or snowing) on the day of our activity? There is a local saying in Colorado: "If you don't like the weather, just wait 5 minutes". Storms that come and stay are very uncommon. Typical Colorado weather is brief afternoon thunderstorms, most common during July. All of our trips will go on “rain or shine.” We send out a detailed gear list before each event letting guests know what to bring for their event. If we cannot do an activity safely due to weather (rock climbing in the rain for instance) we have many options to modify the event for your enjoyment.
What is your cancellation policy? Also, understand that CWRAG/CWCAT has a 14-day cancellation policy for ½ day and single-day adventure trips; for multi-day trips and educational courses; for all group tours, charter transportation, services, team building events, leadership development events; and whitewater and zipline tours; and if you need to cancel a booking, you must do so in writing in advance or you will be charged 100% of the total price for the services. We reserve the right to cancel for any reason. If we must cancel, we will provide a full refund or alternative dates. We are outside in all types of weather; rain, snow, and hot sun. Please be prepared! If the weather becomes severe, we'll make alternative arrangements. Be assured that safety is always our priority.
Do you provide transportation? Yes! Colorado Wilderness Corporate and Teams can provide transportation for your group event. In Colorado, transportation companies have to get authority from the Colorado Public Utilities Commission, rather than the US Department of Transportation to operate. Colorado Wilderness Transportation (Boulder Wilderness Shuttle LLC) has authority for charter, limousine, scheduled, and sightseeing service – PUC # 55777. We have a unique set of skills in understanding the local mountains and outdoor areas (National Parks, Colorado State Parks, Open Spaces, Bureau of Land Management, National Forests, river systems, and outdoor venues for wedding/concerts/events). We are experts in terms of safety, route selection, assessing weather conditions, and possessing permits to operate through multiple land managers. Thus, we have become an authority on traveling in and around the mountains around Colorado. This understanding, along with professional staff allows us to provide services no other transportation company in the state can provide
How long does a team-building activity last? Because all of our activities are custom and private we can create your perfect Team building or Leadership Development event. From a quick 90 minute hike to get outside between meetings or a 3-day executive retreat we can create the event that is right for your organization. Our most popular events usually take about 4 hours or a ½ day.
Do you provide lunch or dinner? For all of our activates we supply snacks and water for your event. We are happy to supply catering and lunch as an add-on for our longer events. Since each event is custom and private we can easily make sure your guests are taken care of for the duration of your event.
Colorado Wilderness Corporate and Teams designs events for every industry and across all sectors. We have worked with companies in the biotech, construction, medical, technology, renewable energy, mineral resource, food and beverage, and airline industries. Our staff have also designed events for sports teams, law enforcement, government agencies, transportation, rescue, and education professionals.
We strive to develop sustainable and long-lasting partnerships with all types of organizations. This allows us to better understand each organization’s unique culture. It also gives us the opportunity to provide innovative experiences that promote excellence, achievement, healthy communication, and inclusion to maximize organizational success.
Nothing more powerful & motivating than a great day outdoors!
